Intensive English Programme (IEP)

Overview

The Intensive English Programme (IEP) at Â鶹Íø is designed to develop the language proficiency and academic communication skills required for success in higher education and international environments. The programme supports students in building confidence and adaptability as they prepare for study in an English-medium institution.

Comprehensive Language Development

Designed for students who have not yet met the University’s English language entry requirements, as well as those seeking to further refine their academic language skills, the IEP provides a structured pathway into academic programmes. It focuses on strengthening listening, speaking, reading, and writing within an academic context, enabling learners to communicate effectively and confidently in higher education settings.

The programme follows a level-based progression aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), enabling students to progress from foundational to more advanced levels of proficiency (A2 to C1). Teaching and learning activities are organised around integrated oral and written components, supporting the development of both comprehension and production skills in a cohesive manner.

Interactive Learning Environment

Learning in the IEP is interactive and practice-oriented. Students participate in discussions, presentations, collaborative tasks, and project work that build critical thinking, academic literacy, and effective communication. Progress is monitored through continuous assessment and end-of-level evaluations, ensuring that learners are well supported throughout their development.

In addition to classroom learning, the IEP provides a rich intercultural experience. The programme incorporates cultural and language enrichment activities that bring together students from diverse countries and backgrounds. These initiatives encourage cross-cultural interaction, broaden global perspectives, and create authentic opportunities to use English in real-life contexts.

Equipped for Academic Success
